So I was perusing Speedhunters, and as expected, I got on a Japanese car kick. That got me thinking about what Japanese cars I’d own. So I skipped all the typical Skyline/Supra stuff and went straight to kei cars. My garage choice is after the jump; what would your garage look like?
My daily driver was kinda hard to decide on, but eventually I narrowed it down to the Honda N-Box Slash, in this blue color. I think the Slash is really unique-looking, and is really practical.
Look how spacious the N-Box is.
If you ever had no place to sleep, you could literally sleep right there.
Looking through photos of the Slash, it’s evident it’s got a ton of features too, such as wireless phone charging, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, a rearview camera, navigation, auto A/C, and power-folding mirrors. What else could you want in a daily driver?
My second kei car would be a sports car obviously; I’m sticking with Honda again and choosing the S660. It’s mid-engined, has a 6-speed manual, and the top comes off. And besides, look at how adorable this car is.
So that’s my kei car garage; now it’s time for yours!

A Jimny
and I have to agree with the S660.

Notes about the S660: the interior is tight, but not uncomfortable. The shift feels fantastic. It's impossible to get out of with any sort of grace.

Ok Mr. Audi, I’ll choose for you then.
I know you love A1s even if they’re not kei cars.

10/10 would off-road the Jimny.

A light weight SUV with solid front and rear axles sounds delightful.

Is it like modern turbo engines where you don’t really feel the lag and makes power lower down, or do you have to work it?

Since you asked: it would be kei free

Autozam AZ-1 Mazdaspeed, and some boxy hatchback thing, perhaps a Mazda Flair.

Gen 1 Jimny, a classic ‘70s Mazda Porter Cab, a City Turbo II, and a first gen Daihatsu Copen. Oh, and maybe a Carry van with the 4x4 from the truck option. Or just a Carry Multicab.

I don’t know if it’s any good as a car, and I think they are rather ugly, but I want a Suzuki Every Joy Pop Turbo because that name makes me happy every time I see or say it.

AZ-1 is always the answer when Miata isn't available. :)

Well, I know what kei stuff I like. I’ve got one listed of each major vehicle variety: 4x4, hatch, roadster/coupe (no kei sedans I’m aware of), van, and truck. Two with 4wd/AWD, mix of turbo and non-turbo, RWD-base and AWD base, with a bit from the 70s, 80s/90s, and early 2000s. I’d never, ever be bored... though I’d probably want a big car around somewhere to expand in once in a while.

Suzuki Jimny for off roading
Suzuki Alto Works for daily driving
Mazda Porter Cab for truck duties
The thing is I could buy all 3 of these for less than what I paid for my current car.

That’s a fantastic list although the Honda City Turbo II is not a Kei car.

Oh, heck yes. I’m currently DDing a beat-up Sidekick, and love it. A brand new one would be just awesome.

The Honda N-box and the Autozam AZ-1. And then maybe a little Kei 4x4

Right you are, now that I’ve checked. Apart from engine displacement/power, it’s astonishingly close, though. It’s about 8” too long, and right on the width limit. Actually, it’s almost within the modern kei length code, just not the one that was current at the time - all the first gen Citys would be within size of that if made today.

Mitsubishi Dangan ZZ-4
Honda Acty
Honda City Turbo II
Honda Beat
Daihatsu Mira Walkthrough Van (because why the hell not)
And last but not least, one of the new Suzuki Altos, with a Hayabusa swap, of course.

I’d be torn between that Beat and the Autozam AZ-1. I’d probably take the Beat for its targa-ness.
I’d also take one of Nissan’s Pike cars. Or maybe two, they’re pretty cheap. Figaro and Be-1 I think.
Or maybe a Capuccino. Dammit I love these cars.

I would definitely put some more cars on there but I don’t have time right now. As you can see, I want every car ever.
